UPOU ACHIEVES GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWERS ALL WOMEN AND GIRLS

UPOU promotes a healthy and equal environment for all of its constituents regardless of their gender, especially for women which generally experience discrimination and violence. The University believes that establishing gender equality forges a peaceful and prosperous place where anyone can excel. Thus, it grants equal opportunities to everyone who wants to acquire its offered benefits and services. The University even has a dedicated office for gender-related concerns — the OGC. The Office investigates gender-related issues and concerns in the University such as discrimination, harassment, cyberbullying, exploitation, and the like which need urgent attention and response. Together with the UPOU Gender Focal Point System, which consists of the Faculties of Studies and other units of the University, OGC aims to help promote gender mainstreaming in UPOU by encouraging and strengthening advocacy programs on gender equality in its teaching, research, and extension projects.

POLICIES TO EMPOWER AND PROTECT ALL GENDERS

As a research institution, UPOU ensures that its research is not only ethically sound but also gender-focused by offering grants that will support the conduct of such types of research. Through this initiative, UPOU constituents are being encouraged to pursue gender-related topics that can help improve existing laws and policies.

As of now, UPOU does not have its own gender-related policy. However, it complies with national and UP system policies that protect all genders, especially those who experience discrimination and violence. The University also supports its constituents who have familial responsibilities, including single parents and lactating mothers. It grants them benefits and provides them with facilities that can help them deliver their duties efficiently and effectively.

As of now, there are no Constituent Unit policies regarding policy of non-discrimination against women but UPOU through its programs, activities, and initiatives continue to abide by and uphold the laws relating to gender equality, one of which is the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710)
